My Favorite Locations for Family Photos in Austin:
Bull Creek Park
Bull Creek is a beautiful park with gorgeous trees, flowing water, and cool rock formations. It also has amazing light both in the
Sekrit Theater
Sekrit Theater is no longer a secret!!! For all my fun, funky families wondering where to take family photos in Austin, this is a hip spot in east Austin that has become all the rage. Sekrit Theater is best known for its stunning greenhouse and black/white floor. Owned by a cool Austin couple that has embrace our town’s “Keep Austin Wierd” motto, they have turned their once ‘junky’ backyard into a photographer’s playground!
Long Center/Butler Park
Whether you have just moved to Austin or you’ve been here your whole life, it’s always cool to get photos of our city’s beautiful (ever changing) skyline. Not sure if you want a park or urban setting? This location offers a mix of both. You get the city skyline, cool silver architure of the Long Center building, and short walk to Butler Park for some greenary. It’s a win
Seaholm District
Seaholm district was the former industrial section of downtown Austin, and over the last several years has made a dramatic transformation into a cool urban area. With the iconic art deco architecture from the old power plant, to the new modern Central Libray, there are lots of fun spots for photos.
Pennybacker Bridge/360 Bridge
The Pennybacker Bridge (otherwise known as the 360 Bridge) is another iconic Austin location. For families looking for locations for family photos in Austin that include both greenary, water, sunsets and a recogonziable symbol of Austin living. It’s best to visit this location right at sunset to capture the beautiful light and get a great photo of the bridge once the sun is low in the sky.
Mueller Lake Park
This east Austin park is another favorite because not only does this location have a beautiful park and sunlight, but you get a mix of location choices with both some urban areas to walk around and the park with water.
Commons Ford Ranch
Commons Ford Ranch is a park tucked, hidden away in Westlake. This park gets some of the most delicious light (beautiful in the morning and evening). At this location, you park in a dirt parking area then walk a short path, taking photos along the way, and then the park opens up to Lake Austin.
Woodlands Park
Woodlands park is a quiet neighborhood park that is tucked away in NW Austin. It has a beautiful fallen tree that kids can explore and climb on, which also makes for a great family shot. There are several swings which always makes for fun, playful images. This locations for family photos in Austin is a great choice spring, summer or fall. It sits on Lake Austin so you have pretty water shots, big trees, and some walking paths.
Your own home
There is nothing quite like capturing the memories of your family in your own home. In-home sessions are some of my most favorite sessions because I get the opportunity to capture your children in their own environment, where they are most comfortable. I love these lifestyle sessions and they can be used as a time capsule for capturing your child’s favorite things…because before you know it they will be on to the next stage. When thinking about locations for family photos in Austin, don’t forget about your own home!
